Paris

I cannot find words to express how much I like this picture by Andre Francois from the late fifties. To me says more about Paris than any photograph can. Wonderful!

My God, that's stunning - thanks for sharing that Oscar. I only became aware of Andre Francois when I read his obituary last year in the Times! They published a superb drawing of NYC too. Do you know if there are any books available on him? I'll be in Paris next week - there MUST be something available over there.

I suppose you know that ALL his work burned in a studio fire when he was 85 years old...A tragedy.
I have a DVD with a programe about him made just before it happened and it is heart wrenching!
There are few books about him. "The Tattooed Sailor", "The Half Naked Knight" and "Andre Francois" edited by Edward Booth-Clibborn..This is around and you may find it in Charing Cross second hand bookshops.
Then there were several children books and collections of cartoons by him. They are quite difficult to find. I met him in the nineteen nineties. He was a BEAUTIFUL man!...He described himself as a Painter who was a "Sunday Cartoonist"..A genius!!!
